About GEARS Initiative

GEARS (Governance Elections, Advocacy, Research Services) Initiative is a Zambian nonprofit think tank committed to advancing democracy, constitutionalism, and human rights. We strengthen governance systems through evidence-based advocacy, election monitoring, civic education, and research.

Electoral Integrity & Reforms

We work to defend, protect, and promote free, fair, and credible electoral processes. This involves monitoring elections, conducting voter education, advocating for essential legal and constitutional reforms to the electoral framework, and promoting conflict prevention for peaceful polls.

Human Rights & Justice

This program focuses on advancing human rights, constitutionalism, and the rule of law. We advocate for policies that enhance the protection of fundamental freedoms, promote access to justice for marginalized communities, and ensure that legal frameworks are aligned with democratic principles.

Governance & Accountability

Our goal is to foster transparent, accountable, and responsive governance. We engage in civil society oversight, demand accountability from public institutions, and support initiatives that strengthen democratic systems, ensuring government actions serve the public interest.

Community Service & Delivery

We connect governance and accountability to tangible public benefit by focusing on improved service delivery and local development. This involves mobilizing citizens to effectively participate in local and national development planning, holding service providers to account, and ensuring equitable resource distribution.

Research & Policy Advocacy

As a dedicated think tank, this program is the backbone of our evidence-based action. We conduct rigorous research on democracy and governance issues, translate findings into actionable policy briefs, and execute targeted advocacy and lobbying campaigns to influence legislation and policy for national development.
